Optical Moisture Meter/Moisture Sensor

The infrared moisture meter & sensor allow moisture to be detected optically through reflection of infrared rays, enabling non-contact, high-speed moisture measurement.
It can be used for moisture measurement, quality control, energy saving, etc. in various industrial fields.

Measurement Principle

Moisture tends to absorb a specific wavelength of light (near-infrared light), and the larger the moisture content of a substance, the greater the energy of light absorbed.The infrared moisture meter & sensor are measuring instruments that make use of this physical phenomenon.The wavelengths to be absorbed by moisture include 1.2, 1.45, 1.94, and 2.95 μm. These instruments employ wavelengths of 1.94 μm and 1.45 μm as a measuring beam.However, with a measuring beam alone, the measurement result is influenced by the color, surface condition, and other factors of a sample. For this reason, the adjacent two lights (reference lights) that do not react with the moisture are measured simultaneously to remove disturbance factors.The measured value (IM-D value) is given by the following equation.

Moisture measurement on an extensive corrugated surface is possible.

 

Extensive measurement is possible without sacrificing the resolution and functionality of the fiber optic top-end model IM-3CSV.With extensive measurement, this product supports a greater variety of themes.

Measurement with a diameter of up to Φ190 mm allows the measurement area to be more than three times larger than with fiber optic measurement.

It is also possible to measure the surface of granular deposits such as pellets, capsules, and various raw materials.

Data

The IM-D output value is a moisture meter output value (mv) that corresponds to the moisture content. The data on the right is a calibration curve that represents the correlation between the absolute moisture value measured by the absolute dry method (gravimetric method) or the Karl Fischer method and the IM-D value obtained from the moisture meter detector.
